Horses have been invaluable companions and work partners for humans throughout history. Today, horses are largely used for recreational purposes and are loved by “horse people” everywhere. Most people involved with horses experience a strong bond with their horses and can testify to their intuitive and sensitive nature. Many people just feel better after spending time with their horse, whether it’s in the saddle or on the ground.

What makes this more remarkable is that the horse is a prey animal.  Although humans are predators in one sense, people often resort to behaving as if they are prey animals when they turn away from God and are faced with threats to their emotional, mental, and physical well-being.

Working with horses, attending to their needs, and gaining their trust is a powerful and meaningful experience for people. We can learn more about God’s love for us as we interact with horses, using the experiences as powerful analogies of God’s desire for us to grow into the person He created and the disciple He desires.
