The Selah Farm Learning mentorship program is a Christ-centered, equine ministry that pairs a child or teen with an adult mentor and a horse to help the participant grow relationally, emotionally, and spiritually. We use a framework to develop key resiliency skills that horses are very good at teaching people and that lead to positive core identity change for the participant.
Horses respond honestly to human behavior and emotion and reflect what is happening beneath the surface. The horses invite people to greater awareness, connection, and regulation. Participants experience connection without words and practice new ways of relating. They receive immediate, non-judgmental feedback from the horse as they develop trust, communication, boundaries, and leadership.
During the sessions the mentor and child participate in connection time, complete activities with the horse, and might even complete a ranch chore. The typical session is approximately 60 – 90 minutes long.
